Overview
This program trains students in knowledge, skill, and spiritual formation for ministry. It joins deep research and academic rigour with practical training for ministry in the church.
You can prepare for pastoral leadership, mission work, theological education, or other Christian service. The program joins biblical and theological study with applied formation. This grounds you in the text and makes you ready to serve.
Flexible study options
You can complete the Professional Credential in Theology at your own pace. Full-time study takes three years. Part-time study takes five years. This lets you study while you work.
Academic entry requirements
Complete the introductory THEO101 course. You also need a bachelor degree or an equivalent undergraduate degree.
Serious theology, practical ministry
Haddon Institute delivers the Professional Credential in Theology in partnership with ATS-accredited PRTS (Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary) in Michigan, USA. The curriculum meets internationally recognised seminary standards. Haddon Institute focuses on ministry in the Asia-Pacific context.
Study workload
For each subject you take, plan 8-12 hours of work each week. That time covers assignments and assigned readings, tutorial help, and research. It also covers forum activity, workplace learning, and lectures, intensive schools, or examinations.

Accreditation and recognition
Haddon Institute delivers the Professional Credential in Theology in partnership with PRTS. PRTS holds accreditation with the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). This program is not accredited by the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
ATS is the primary accrediting body for theological education in North America. The same standard applies to institutions such as Yale Divinity School, Harvard Divinity School, and Duke Divinity School. The credential is recognised in ministry and academic settings.
Through the PRTS partnership, the program joins academic standards with the ministerial preparation the church requires.
Mission electives
The program also offers mission electives for specific areas of ministry. These courses give practical training and experience. This prepares you for academic work and for service.
Church Planting
This course gives you the knowledge and skill to plant and grow healthy churches in the Asia-Pacific context. The region needs more healthy, multiplying churches. You receive a clear framework from experienced practitioners. You also receive personal development, training, and mentoring.
Charles Spurgeon and Preaching the Word
This elective studies the preaching of Charles Spurgeon. It covers his principles and practices of effective preaching. People call Spurgeon the Prince of Preachers for good reason, and his sermons still reach readers in many languages. In his day God used his preaching to convert and mature many souls. The course studies his philosophy and practice of sermon preparation and delivery. It shows what preachers and evangelists can use today.
Preparing leaders for the kingdom of Christ
The program prepares you for ministry roles such as pastor, missionary, theologian, educator, and other Christian leadership positions. You gain knowledge, skill, and spiritual maturity for service in the kingdom of God.
Who we welcome
Haddon Institute welcomes applicants who want a deeper theological understanding. A background in theology is valuable but is not required for admission. Applicants with an accredited bachelor degree receive full consideration.
Admission to graduate theological study includes a screening process. That process can include interviews, writing samples, and other evaluations.
