Plagiarism Policy

Haddon Institute holds a zero-tolerance policy on plagiarism. Plagiarism means you present the work, ideas, or expressions of another person as your own, without proper acknowledgment or permission. This includes copying text, images, or data without citation. It also includes use of the ideas of another person without credit, whether you intend this or not.

This policy applies to all work. This includes assignments, projects, research papers, publications, and digital content. At enrolment, students receive resources on citation practice and academic integrity. Haddon Institute uses plagiarism-detection software during marking. Haddon Institute can check all student work. Haddon Institute treats violations as serious and acts on them without delay.

Academic integrity is a shared duty. Students must help keep the academic community honest.

Threshold

Haddon Institute determines the share of plagiarised content in an assessment. If that share is 25% or more, the student receives an automatic fail on that assessment. The mark is 0%. Haddon Institute then refers the student to the Academic Integrity Committee for sanction.

Haddon Institute treats plagiarism in the same way as AI overuse. The same 25% threshold applies. The same appeal framework applies.

Appeal

Students can appeal in writing to the Academic Dean. They must send the appeal within seven days of notification. Students can include supporting evidence. This includes draft history, notes, and search logs. The Academic Integrity Committee considers every appeal before it finalises a sanction.
